Channel 4 is making a series that will be looking into the declining population of Bees, the impacts of their decline and most importantly what we can all do to help improve things. Peterborough is the city that will hopefully rally together with the aim of getting the Bee population back on its feet, by getting everyone in the community involved from their own back gardens to public parks & spaces.
One of the first things they will be doing is a ‘Bee Count’ to work out Peterborough's baseline pollinator population. To do that, they need the help of volunteers from across the city. There will be a number of different counts across Peterborough on Thursday 18th, with the main event kicking off in Cathedral Square to learn how to conduct a pollinator count, before moving on to various parks and gardens around the city.
The data the volunteers will collect will be really important for the series and will also be included in the nationwide Pollinator Monitoring Scheme, helping scientists understand how bees and other pollinators across Britain are faring. They really need as many people as possible to join, so please tell your friends, colleagues, or share the flyer in your local community centre.
If you are interested in taking part or would like some more information please do get in touch at beecampaign@redskyproductions.co.uk
