The Chequered Skipper butterfly was once a common sight in the woodlands across Rockingham Forest, thriving in open, sunny areas within or on the edges of woodland. But changes in management over time caused woodlands here to become very enclosed and dark, leading to the loss of Chequered Skipper from England in 1976. In 2017, as part of the ambitious Back from the Brink partnership initiative which aimed to save some of our most threatened species, Butterfly Conservation reintroduced this charismatic butterfly back into its former stronghold. Join Susannah O'Riordan from Butterfly Conservation to learn about how this was achieved, with a focus on the reintroduction process and the habitat management that is key to ensuring its success, as well as an update on how the project is progressing.
