Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery, Peterborough Museum, Priestgate, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, PE1 1LF
100 years ago, Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery was Peterborough Infirmary. Let one of our nurses take you on a tour of the Infirmary- you might even bump into some of the hospital staff hard at work! Plus try your hand at identifying some X-rays
Join a special tour for HODs and discover an astounding invention linked with Peterborough. Hear the story of a hospital employee and keen photographer who created his own X-ray equipment. After a trip to a London hospital, Dr Alfred C. Taylor began designing and building his own X-Ray machine. It would become the first to be built in the United Kingdom outside London.
A nurse will guide you around the Infirmary and introduce you to Dr. Taylor as he works on his invention. Our nurse will then take you to our Victorian operating theatre and bring the sights and sounds of these early years of modern medicine to life.
For younger visitors, we have a ‘guess the animal’ X-ray game.
