The Cathedral's Estates and Facilities Manager, Tom Küpper, takes a closer look at the building’s stained glass collection and its place in history.
As an ICON accredited conservator, Tom worked for over for 30 years as a stained glass conservator, restoring many historic windows in churches and private homes. Before joining Peterborough Cathedral’s staff in 2020 Tom worked for briefly for Historic England helping churches with their maintenance programme. Before Historic England he worked at Lincoln Cathedral as the head glazier and together with a team of conservators looked after the Cathedral's stained glass collection, with over 700 windows, including a large collection of nineteenth-century and medieval stained glass.
With a timespan from medieval times to the twentieth century, Tom will shed some light on the stained glass at Peterborough Cathedral and how the stained glass came to be here. He will evaluate its quality and also refer to the stained glass at nearby St John’s Church on Cathedral Square.
