Palm Sunday

About

A service to commemorate Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It begins outside the Cathedral with a procession from the archway nearest Cathedral Square. The procession will be joined by two donkeys, Mandy and Elise.

On Palm Sunday the Church commemorates Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem when he was hailed as a king and the crowd covered his path with palm branches. Yet he rode on a humble donkey and only a short time later was to betrayed by one of his disciples, tried by the authorities and eventually crucified on the cross to accomplish his saving work (this is known as the Passion story).

See below for more about the donkeys.

During the service there will be a dramatised reading of the Passion story from St Luke's gospel.

All are welcome.

Please note our current Covid Guidelines for Worshippers.

Mandy, the donkey on the left, is the mother of Elise (also known as Elsie) and they will be leading the Palm Sunday procession.
